Description

The walk starts at Woodrow Wilsonplein near the city office and runs in 1.5 to 2 hours to St. Nicholas’ Church. Along the way, we will investigate the frieze of Jozef Cantré and discover how the old railway station still defines the square.

We look at how statues on squares reflect 250 years of Ghent history and show the free, rebellious soul of the people of Ghent, rooted in the medieval tradition of guilds and skippers.

During the tour we will meet figures such as Edward Anseele, Michaël Borremans, Lieven Bauwens, Emile Braun and Walter De Buck, and contemporary Ghent high-tech at the Krook.
