patershol and prinsenhof

Description

In the shadow of the Castle of the Counts is Patershol.

This picturesque neighborhood was connected to that medieval castle for centuries.

The Plotersgracht is gone but the houses breathe history. Tanners, monastic friars, magistrates and goldsmiths once lived here.

With the rise of industry, the neighborhood deteriorated and fell into a deep sleep.

For several decades, this oasis of peace in the middle of the city has been extremely attractive and hip.

We also visit Prinsenhof, that beautiful part of Ghent where singer Wim de Craene says goodbye to Rosanne. It is also the place the Counts of Flanders preferred to the chilly Castle of the Counts.

Along the way, we meet a silent noose-bearer. Ah yes, where did that name come from again?
