Pacification of Ghent - Unity in diversity
Capacity: 1-20 participants
Duration: 2h
Description
In 1576, the pacification of Ghent was signed. This was supposed to usher in a period of calm after years of unrest and terror caused by mutinous Spanish soldiers and by a ferocious mob that caused a trail of destruction in churches and monasteries.
The pacification of Ghent also gave its name to the famous hall in the town hall with a remarkable labyrinth.
A year later, Ghent will be part of the Calvinist Republic. What happened behind the walls of the Hof van Ryhove, the stronghold of the Calvinist Republic? And what role did William of Orange play in this? We walk past the Castle of the Counts and past the Prinsenhof. We won’t tell you more here. You will hear all the stories and anecdotes during this unique tour.
